Frequently asked questions
What is a good running pace per mile? ›
Average recreational runners pace between 9–12 min/mile. A 10 min/mile pace is very common and achievable for most healthy adults with regular training. Competitive amateur runners often run 7–9 min/mile. Elite marathon runners average under 5 min/mile (4:35–4:45 for world-class). For beginners, any pace that lets you hold a conversation (the "talk test") is a sustainable aerobic pace.
How do I calculate my pace? ›
Pace = Total time ÷ Distance. For example: a 5K in 30 minutes = 30 ÷ 3.107 miles = 9:39 per mile, or 30 ÷ 5 km = 6:00 per km. To find finish time: Finish time = Pace × Distance. To convert min/mile to mph: 60 ÷ pace in decimal minutes = mph. This calculator handles all the conversions automatically.
What pace do I need to break 4 hours in a marathon? ›
To finish a marathon (26.2188 miles) in exactly 4:00:00, you need to run 9:09 per mile, or 5:41 per kilometer. For a 3:30 marathon: 8:01/mile. For a 3:00 marathon: 6:52/mile. Use the "Find Pace" mode above with 26.2188 miles and your target time to find the exact pace you need to hold throughout the race.
How do I convert pace between miles and kilometers? ›
To convert min/mile to min/km: divide by 1.60934. A 10:00/mile pace = 10 ÷ 1.60934 = 6:13/km. To convert min/km to min/mile: multiply by 1.60934. A 6:00/km pace = 6 × 1.60934 = 9:39/mile. This calculator shows both automatically — enter either and see the full conversion.
About this pace calculator
This calculator works in three modes: Find Pace (from distance and time), Find Finish Time (from distance and pace), and Find Distance (from time and pace). It shows your pace in min/mile and min/km, speed in mph and km/h, and a table of projected finish times for common races (5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon) all at your current pace.
