About this grade calculator
Our free grade calculator makes it easy to find out exactly where you stand in any course. Whether your professor grades on a simple point system or a weighted category system, we've got you covered.
Simple vs. weighted grading
Many courses use a simple point system where every assignment is worth a certain number of points and everything is totaled at the end. Other courses use weighted categories — for example, homework might count for 20% of your grade while the final exam counts for 30%. Use the tab above that matches your syllabus.
Tips for improving your grade
If you're unhappy with your current grade, focus first on the highest-weighted assignments remaining in the semester. A strong performance on a 30%-weighted final exam can significantly move your overall grade. Use our Final Grade Calculator to find out exactly what you need.
Add each grading category from your syllabus (e.g. Homework, Tests, Final Exam), set its weight, then enter your individual scores within each category.
How weighted grades work
In a weighted grading system, your professor assigns a percentage weight to each category of work. To find your overall grade, calculate your average within each category, then multiply each category average by its weight, and sum them all together.
For example: if you have an 88% in Homework (worth 30%) and a 92% in Tests (worth 70%), your overall grade is (0.88 × 30) + (0.92 × 70) = 26.4 + 64.4 = 90.8%.
